I have not ever...

...taken this blog thing seriously! Honestly!
I procrastinate in this endeavor like I do pretty much everything else. After all, it took me 60 years to get an honest to goodness complete book put together. Now that's just shameful.

A blog just does not hold my interest long enough for me to devote a great deal of time to it. And, furthermore...who is it that reads a blog? Well, I have taken to reading Mo Kelley's blog that has to do with all things West Boone and Boone proper. It has brought some wonderful things to mind from days long past.

I have few memories of the past, but the ones that come from reading Mo's blog are generally the really good ones that exist.

And it makes you stop and think. About the state of our youth today and the social temperament that they live in. They don't have a lot going for them socially speaking. And discounting Facebook, Myspace, Twitter, et al...there really IS no substitute for friday night Grid!! Or gathering after school to personally interact with your peers over a soda. Walking home from school discussing the "stuff of life" that made up who you were then, or "slam pads"!!
How revealing one of THOSE things were to us in life. Letting us know we were liked, or not. Accepted or not, or just what our peers and various friends really did think about us.

These things have gone by the way side, much to my dismay, in the lives of kids today. Things that helped to shape our character, direct our paths in our formative years, help our reasoning capabilities...they are no more.

We can't turn back time, but we can forge on with the same air of hope and expectancy we all possessed back then. We can recount and try to reinvent those similar experiences for our young people today in many small ways.

Yes, we are the "old phogey's" whose time has fast become outdated and may very often seem far-fetched and a tad "goofy" to today's techno savvy youth. But no computer on planet earth can give you a hug when your boyfriend breaks up with you or your best friend turns out to be a real jerk, or you just need a real face to talk to. So...

there ya have it.

Maybe this is why I've not put the time and effort into blogging that I could or should have by now. I just need the flesh and bones beside me in lieu of the screen I plant my behind in front of some days.

But I sure appreciate blogs like Mo's or Scarlett O' Hara's Day In The Life to keep me entertained and informed! Maybe I'll leave the blogging to these experts and just plunk around on the occasional whim. :-)  See ya!
