For "not forgetting" the people of Louisianna.
Today is the 2nd anniversary of Katrina and it is a monumental day for me.
It is when my eyes were opened for the first time to the ineptitude of our government and it's leaders, whereas before then, I maintained a healthy trust and respect for them, Katrina and the subsequent treatment (to this day) and lack of concern for our own people in trouble, showed me the real people we have in power.
I am truly an Independant Voting Citizen of these United States and have been for years. More on the conservative side than any, and I was raised in a staunchly Democratic household that goes way back to the day when being a Democrat could be considered a prideful thing. That changed over the years with the corruption etc...
I have voted Democratic and Republican Presidents into office.
Nothing could have changed my mind about the current administration faster than witnessing what I did two years ago, and what I still see today as a lack of interest and or concern for the people of Louisianna.
I hope every one of you is taking advantage of the early start to the political climate out there. Seeking out the websites available to you and getting some important questions answered before the next election.
I still cry seeing the poor folks of Louisianna who are trying to live in a place that is their home, struggling to just stay alive with NOTHING available to them. I take a hard line w/the ppl who say that it was just a bunch of lazy welfare people affected anyway. That's not what I've been seeing. I see good people who paid insurance for years who have been refused help by the very companies they paid for the sake of some "loophole". Good people who have taken two or three jobs, suffered the formaldihyde from FEMA trailers devastating their health, hospitals losing so many drs. nursing personel that they CLOSED the doors for good. The suffering seems endless. The solution far and away long abandoned by any caring official.
It was and still is one of the worst disgraces this nation has suffered in a very long time.
The kinship and comradarie, the patriotism and pulling together felt after 911 was short lived. The days of neighbor helping neighbor and the government really honestly caring for it's people long gone. This up coming election might well be one of the most important in years.
Take time to listen intently, find out what you can, dig deeper and don't let this time be taken up by an ounce of complacency. It may be the last time we'll ever have a chance to really exact change for the better.
Here are my last years comments concerning the 1 year anniversary of Katrina:
